Tikehau

The famed “pink sand island” of Tikehau is a beautiful place to spend any vacation. These pink beaches ring the island in an oval that creates a breathtaking view from land, sea, or air and have been featured on many postcards all over the world. Travelers often take millions of pictures each year to take home and show friends and family or post on the Internet of this beautiful island and her magnificent scenery.
Not only does this island have the most beautiful beaches in the world, it also has one of the highest fish populations in the world. The ratio of fish to people here is so high in fact, that Jacques Cousteau's group researched the island and the fish and found that it has the highest number of fish in all the atolls in the Tuamotu atolls. Due to this high concentration, fishing is the main industry here, and many locals have “fish parks” that they share with other families. These fish parks are underwater areas that are fenced in to trap different fish for food and income, as they ship these fish off all over the French Polynesian islands to shops, restaurants, and grocery stores.
