Fakarava
For the bird and animal watchers, Fakarava is the place to be. Getting To and Around Fakarava
Daily flights to and from Fakarava to Papeete are the main way of getting here to this wonderful sanctuary. While there are not many roads here, there is no public transportation, but you can find cars, scooters, and bicycling as great ways to get around and explore the island and watch the birds and animals that make this their home.

Fakarava is the second biggest atoll located in Polynesia. Its two main villages are Rotoava in the northeast and Tetamanu located near the southern Tumakohua pass. This atoll, combined with 16 other islands, make up the Unesco classified nature reserve. You can explore a pearl farm, visit a sea slug smokehouse, or visit one of the first Catholic churches built in coral in 1874. What really draws everyone to this gorgeous island is the scuba diving. People love exploring the high concentration of ocean life.
